Why Do We Need ‘Super’-Swordfish Radar?

Image
Source:- Why Do We Need ‘Super’-Swordfish Radar? Swordfish is an advanced L-band active phased array radar developed by Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO). Unlike the most radars used by Indian forces, the Swordfish is capable of successfully detect, track and stop inbound ballistic missile threats. India had acquired and deployed two Green Pine radars around July 2002 and another one in August 2005. The Swordfish Long Range Tracking Radar of the Indian Defence Research and Development Organisation is an acknowledged derivative of the original Green Pine. The Indian government has sought to purchase the complete Arrow system since 1999, but in early 2002 the U.S. vetoed Israel’s request to sell the Arrow 2 missiles to India, exercising its right as a major funding contributor. U.S. officials argued that the sale would violate the Missile Technology Control Regime. Swordfish is an acknowledged derivative of the Israeli Green Pine long range radar, whic...

Source:- What types of radars developed by DRDO for Indian Armed Forces? In India, Electronics and Radar Development Establishment (LRDE) is the laboratory that comes under Defence Research & Development Organisation ( DRDO ) which is responsible for development of radars. This organisation has met success with various radar systems developed by it being inducted in Indian Armed Forces now in large numbers. This is seen as a step ahead for DRDO which aims to make India self-sufficient in various key military technology to reduce our import-dependency on foreign military hardware. LRDE partners with Bharat Electronics Limited and private companies like Astra micro and Datapatterns for production of radars. Some of these radar systems are being highlighted below : 1.Indra Radar :-The Indian Doppler Radar (INDRA) series of 2D radars were developed by India’s DRDO for the Army and Air Force. The INDRA-I is a is a mobile surveillance radar for low level target detection while the IND...

UK knew in 1993 that Pakistan’s nuclear plan is not ‘peaceful’

Source:- UK knew in 1993 that Pakistan’s nuclear plan is not ‘peaceful’ The John Major government did not declare it openly but confidential documents reveal that in 1993 it had evidence that Pakistan’s nuclear programme was not ‘peaceful’, as the then Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif, often claimed. Sharif wrote to Major on February 17, 1993, on the eve of the latter’s visit to the United States, harping on Islamabad’s long-standing claim that its nuclear programme is “entirely peaceful”, declassified documents released by National Archives on Friday show. However, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office rejected the claim five days later in a note to 10, Downing Street, stating that Sharif’s three-page letter to Major “contains nothing new”. “We have incontrovertible evidence that claims about the peaceful purpose of the Pakistan nuclear programme are untrue”, J S Smith of the Foreign Office wrote to Stephen Wall, Major’s private secretary, on February 23, 1993. Sharif wanted Major to b...

Mig-21 Crash:- Are Mig-21 really the Flying Coffins or trusted flying companion

Image
Source:- Mig-21 Crash:- Are Mig-21 really the Flying Coffins or trusted flying companion Let me share an incident which happened with one of my friend. He is in NCC , and his Group Commander and camp commandant belonged to Baharmpur Group, Odisha and flies Mig-21. My friend went up to him and asked , “Sir, MiG-21s are regarded as flying coffins, are they safe ?”. He asked him,” How many people have died in bed”? To which my friend replied many. He said, “Should we stop sleeping in bed?”. He said the aircrafts are checked by professionals and he does not worry. “Flying Coffin” is just another rant in Indian media downgrading Indian Defense Assets. Same has happened with INSAS rifles and Arjun tanks since years where typical biasing is shown towards them so that they can be downgraded to the best. You will be surprised to know that Air commodore Surendra Singh Tyagi who has flown some 6,316 sorties on his Mig-21 and has logged in some 8,000 total flight hours has dispelled these myth...

1359. 🇧🇧🇬🇧 Barbados Comments On Royal Mail's Embarassment.

Image
🇧🇧 Even other postal services are having a laugh at Royal Mail's expense as this tweet from the Barbados postal service shows:-   It seems that Royal Mail is an international laughing stock.   🇧🇩 The postal service of Bangladesh has issued a se-tenant block of 4 stamps which are inscribed 'Visit Bangladesh 2017'. I am not sure of the date of issue but I assume that the issue has been released in the latter part of 2018 despite the date printed on the stamps. Rating:- ***.   🇳🇿 In Blog 1351 I mentioned the New Zealand Post gold foil Chinese New Year gold foil miniature sheets which are currently on sale. There are 3 types - the first with coloured stamps housed in a Perspex stand on offer for NZ$288, the second has gold stamps and is also housed in a Perspex stand and sold for a modest (note of irony here) NZ$188 and thirdly there is the large numbered miniature sheet in a limited edition of 103 with gold stamps and housed in a numbered fram...

Identity Politics

Image
Chidera Eggerue Yesterday  morning's Today was guest-edited by a blogger.  No, it wasn't me or Sue. It was Chidera Eggerue - a fashion blogger 'best known' for the #SaggyBoobsMatter hashtag.  Chidera's choices were 'very BBC', and ranged widely across the whole narrow spectrum of identity politics, from transgender issues to body politics, from race-related matters to yet more race-related matters.  It was a very 'non-binary', race-obsessed morning at Today yesterday, and listening to it felt like receiving a hyper-concentrated dose of BBC Radio 4's present-day identity-politics-rife weekly output in just one serving. Even under the editorship of Sarah Sands, it's very hard to imagine the BBC ever giving a Today  guest-editorship to someone whose purpose was the reverse of Chidera's - e.g. a social conservative strongly opposed to identity politics and other such present-day fads and follies over sexuality and race....

Australia strips top IS terror suspect of citizenship

SYDNEY - Australia has stripped the citizenship of its most-wanted Islamic State suspect Neil Prakash for being a member of the jihadist group, the 12th dual-national to lose their passport over terrorism links. Prakash -- a senior recruiter for IS who has been linked to terror plots to kill Australians -- is currently facing charges in Turkey of joining the organisation. The government in 2016 asked Ankara to extradite Prakash, who Canberra previously reported as having been killed in a US airstrike in northern Iraq. "I can confirm that the Australian government has notified Neil Prakash that his Australian citizenship has ceased due to being in the service of Islamic State," Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton said in a statement Saturday. "Cessation of Australian citizenship of dual nationals engaged in terrorist conduct offshore is a key part of Australia's response to international violent extremism and terrorism." Reported to be of Indian, Fijian and Ca...
